Sulfadimidine is a bactericidal medication effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative micro-organisms, including Corynebacterium, E.coli, Fusobacterium necrophorum, Pasteurella, Salmonella, and Streptococcus spp. It works by disrupting bacterial purine synthesis.
Used for gastrointestinal, respiratory, and urogenital infections, mastitis, and panaritium in calves, cattle, goats, sheep, and swine caused by sulfadimidine-sensitive micro-organisms.
Avoid in cases of hypersensitivity to sulfonamides or in animals with severe renal and/or liver impairment or blood dyscrasias.
Possible hypersensitivity reactions.
Administer subcutaneously or intramuscularly. Initial dose of 3-6 ml per 10 kg body weight on the first day, followed by 3 ml per 10 kg body weight for 2-5 days.
Meat: 10 days
Milk: 4 days
Avoid concurrent use with iron and other metals.
