Procaine penicillin G and Dihydrostreptomycin sulphate Injection
Composition:
Contains per ml:
Procaine penicillin G 200 000 IU.
Dihydrostreptomycin sulphate 200 mg.
Indications:
Treats arthritis, mastitis, and infections in the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and urinary tracts caused by penicillin and dihydrostreptomycin-sensitive micro-organisms such as Campylobacter, Clostridium, Corynebacterium, E. coli, Erysipelothrix, Haemophilus, Klebsiella, Listeria, Pasteurella, Salmonella, Staphylococcus, and Streptococcus spp. Effective for calves, cattle, goats, sheep, and swine.
Dosage and administration:
For intramuscular administration:
Cattle: 1 ml per 20 kg body weight for 3 days.
Calves, goats, sheep, and swine: 1 ml per 10 kg body weight for 3 days.
Shake well before use. Do not administer more than 20 ml in cattle, 10 ml in swine, and 5 ml in calves, sheep, and goats per injection site.
Administered by deep intramuscular injection.
Maintain normal aseptic precautions.
The recommended dosage rate is 8 mg/kg bodyweight procaine penicillin with 10 mg/kg bodyweight dihydrostreptomycin sulphate, equivalent to 1 ml per 25 kg bodyweight. Treatment should be administered once daily for up to three consecutive days. The maximum dose volume per site should not exceed 15 ml for horses, 6 ml for cattle, 3 ml for sheep, and 1.5 ml for pigs.
Side effects:
Therapeutic dosages of procaine penicillin G can cause abortion in sows.
Potential for ototoxicity, neurotoxicity, and nephrotoxicity.
Hypersensitivity reactions may occur.
Withdrawal times:
For kidney: 45 days.
For meat: 21 days.
For milk: 3 days.
